Cameroon Football Federation have rejected the resignation of Samuel Eto'o as the President of the football governing body.

Eto'o decided to resign from the role after Cameroon were knocked out of the 2023 AFCON by Nigeria in round 16.

His resignation came in FECAFOOT's first meeting on Monday, February 5, after the 2023 AFCON deadlock.

In the meeting, which was aimed at evaluating the performance of the Indomitable Lions in the continental showpiece and proffering solutions to sundry issues plaguing football administration in the country, Eto'o offered to step down asking members of the Cameroon Football Federation to do the same in good faith.

Reacting to the resignation, members of FECAFOOT's Executive Committee issued a statement rejecting Samuel Eto'o's resignation.

The Committee stated categorically that they have rejected Eto'o's resignation and have urged him and other members of FECAFOOT'S executive to retain their mandates.

They also passed a vote of confidence on the former Barcelona and Chelsea striker hoping to count on his experience to continue developing Cameroonian football.

“At the end of discussions and subsequent deliberations, the members of the executive committee decided to maintain their current mandates and thus unanimously rejected the president’s resignation thereby renewing their confidence in him to continue with the same spirit of reconstruction and development of Cameroon football at all levels as envisaged in his plan adopted by the elective general assembly of Dec. 11, 2021,” the federation said in a statement, referring to the date Eto’o took over as president.

Eto'o was appointed Cameroon Football Federation President in 2021. His tenure has been marred with allegations of corruption and match-fixing scandals. Nevertheless, he is held in high esteem by football officials in Cameroon but was expected to tender his resignation by some football actors in the country after the AFCON deadlock.

Cameroon needed a win in its final group fixture to qualify from the group stage, only to be eliminated by Nigeria in the round of 16.
