Canada Immigration Minister announces new measures limiting the number of international students

Marc-Miller.webp

Honourable Marc Miller, the Canada Immigration Minister, has announced a fresh set of regulations limiting the number of international students the country can receive annually. Starting September 1st, work permits will no longer be issued for spouses of students who aren't in graduate schools. Only the spouses of international students enrolled in professional, master's, and doctoral programs will be permitted to work.

International study permits will be limited to two years, hence, reducing the number of study permits by 35%.

Each province in Canada would now have a cap on the total number of International students it can admit. Also, students will be mandated to obtain a license from their province before applying for a visa.

Starting September 1st, work permits will no longer be issued to postgraduate students who graduated from Private Career Colleges operating under Public College-Private Partnerships

All of these new regulations are targeted at reducing the inflow of international students to Canada and stabilizing the country.
