The Villa Park was filled with intense joy from Aston Villa supporters, as they secured a slim victory over Arsenal.

Aston Villa got their noses in front early on with John McGinn, scoring what went on to be the decisive goal of the encounter.

The Villains took the initiative, following a brilliant move started by Leon Bailey, with the Jamaican driving past several players before squaring the ball to McGinn, who converted with massive aplomb.

In the 28th minute, Oleksandr Zinchenko became the first player to get booked in the game, as he was handed a yellow card for hauling Youri Tielemans to the ground.

5 minutes later, Arsenal saw a big chance, after Ben White played a short corner to Bukayo Saka.

Saka acted like he was going to cross only to square it to Martin Odegaard, who played the ball past Pau Torres, before firing a shot that went inches wide.

In the 36th minute, Arsenal were a whisker away from getting an equalizer, with Gabriel Martinelli getting on the end of a long ball, with Emiliano Martinez rushing out to save the blues of Aston Villa.

Martinelli did quite well to dunk the ball over him, but defender Diego Carlos did well to provide a last-ditch clearance off the line.

Arsenal continued to pose several questions in the opening 45, with Oleksandr Zinchenko floating the ball to find Gabriel Jesus, who cut into the area before smashing a shot on goal.

His effort was well-worked and world-class, but Villa goalie Emiliano Martinez did well to parry it away to safety for his side.

Unai Emery's side went into the break leading, after a spirited performance in the first 45.

Following the restart of the second half, Moussa Diaby came on in place of Leon Bailey for Aston Villa.

7 minutes before the hour mark, Lucas Digne was booked for a cynical challenge on Bukayo Saka.

Unai Emery was relishing the opportunity of picking up a delightful win against his former side, and he introduced Jacob Ramsey for Your Tielemans in the 56th minute.

Diego Carlos also became a life-saver for the Villains in the second 45, clearing the ball off the line 3 minutes before the hour mark, after Martinez made a mess of a corner delivered into the box by Bukayo Saka.

The ball ricochets off the back of Ollie Watkins before heading towards goal, but Aston Villa supporters can be thankful to Carlos for coming up clutch.

In the 61st minute, Mikel Arteta's side thought they had brought the game to parity, with Saka rounding Emiliano Martinez and slotting the ball into an empty net, however, he was adjudged offside.

Just a minute later, Douglas Luiz was shown a yellow card for clipping the heels of Bukayo Saka.

In the 66th minute, Matty Cash was brought on for Aston Villa, replacing Ezri Konsa, with Unai Emery also sending on Leander Dendonker for Boubacar Kamara.

4 minutes later, Leandro Trossard came on for Gabriel Martinelli, while Villa captain John McGinn was booked for a reckless tackle on Martin Odegaard.

13 minutes before the end of regulation time, Declan Rice was also shown a yellow for a foul on Matty Cash.

Unai Emery made his last substitution in the game, in the 78th minute, as he substituted Lucas Digne for Alex Moreno.

Villa Park was lively throughout the 90 minutes, with Aston Villa supporters rallying behind their team for the entirety of the game.

Edward Nketiah also came on to replace Gabriel Jesus in the 82nd minute, with the Gunners in search of an equalizing goal.

Impressive Diego Carlos, who had put in a great shift in defense for Aston Villa, could have been sent off after he caught Nketiah with his elbow, a VAR check was done to ascertain the card to hand to him, and the referee only handed him a yellow.

In the 90th minute, Mikel Arteta's side were filled with joy, having had the ball into the back of the net, unfortunately, following a VAR check, the goal was canceled, with the on-field referee and the VAR officials, adjudging the call to have come from an offside and rightly canceled.

The Gunners made their last substitution in the 4th minute of additional time in the second 45, with Reiss Nelson coming on for Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Arsenal couldn't return to the summit of the log, with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, following the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table with 37 points, 1 point more than the North London side, who currently occupy the second spot.
