Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has been the latest football icon to be accused of tax fraud, for which he could face five years if convicted.

The Spanish prosecutors, whose names were not disclosed, announced on March 6, 2024, that they have been pursuing the Real Madrid manager for allegedly defrauding the tax collectors of €1 million, an offense that will result in a jail term of four years and nine months.

The Italian manager was accused of using shell companies to hide part of the income during his first tenure at Real Madrid over a decade ago.

The prosecutors claimed the former Everton manager received real income, not income from image rights.

In that process, he created a confusing system to conceal his extra earnings.

The Italian manager managed Real Madrid from 2013–15 before he rejoined the club in 2021.

Carlo Ancelotti is the only manager to have won the Champions League four times, twice with Real Madrid and twice with AC Milan.

In addition, he is the only manager to have won domestic titles in Spain, England, Italy, Germany, and France.

In recent years, there has been a clampdown by tax authorities on tax fraud committed by top football figures.

Jose Mourinho received a one-year suspension after he pleaded guilty to the offense in 2019.

Lionel Messi and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo were found guilty of tax fraud before they left the Spanish La Liga.

Lionel Messi was given a suspended 21-month prison sentence, but it was later reduced by the Spanish court during his time in Barcelona.

Ronaldo received a 23-month suspended prison sentence and a €18 million fine while he was at Real Madrid.

He didn't serve any jail time because prison sentences of less than two years in Spain are usually served on probation.

Xabi Alonso was also found guilty of tax fraud by the Spanish Court. The Spanish manager had been tipped to succeed Jurgen Klopp when he leaves at the end of the season.

Carlo Ancelotti Achievements
He won the FIFA World Best Manager Award twice. The first one came in 2008 with AC Milan, and the second one came in the 2012–13 season.

Ancelotti won four Champions Leagues, three FIFA Club World Cups, one Bundesliga title, and one Premier League title.

In addition, the manager won the Ligue 1 title with Paris Saint-Germain, one Serie A title, one Spanish LA Liga, four Super Cups, one FA Cup, two Copa Del Rey, one Italian Cup, two Spanish Super Cups, two German Super Cups, one Italian Super Cup, and one English Super Cup.
