Late Luis Diaz stunning strike shocks Chelsea as they suffer their first defeat in the Champions league.
It was all looking like Chelsea will settle for a draw, but Conceciao’s side are not going to be dumped out of the Champions League without a fight.
The Portuguese side started the match with their sensational attacker on the bench, who missed the first leg due to suspension. Conceciao made a quadruple change late in the game to keep the fight for the Semifinal alive.
Chelsea all looking like they came to get a draw from their style of play, sitting deep and allowing Porto have the ball.
The London side started with the same frontline against Crystal Palace, over the weekend. The trio of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz is the youngest attacking setup Chelsea have ever fielded in the Champions League.
Pulisic was unarguably the better player of the Chelsea side, attracting the most foul in the game. He missed a beautiful chance before Diaz’s beautiful overhead kick.
Thomas Tuchel has this to say at the end of the defeat,
“We accepted what was needed was a tough, tough fight,” he tells dishy Des Kelly from BT Sport. “On teleivision it was probably not so nice to watch but on the sideline it was a very intense and fast game. It was a tough fight, very hard to play against them and to escape the pressure.
“They are a very aggressive team, Porto and they attack in a very fluent and aggressive way. They change positions all the time, they come from behind, they overlap, they underlap ... you have to adapt to many movements but after a tough start after every minute we did it better and better.
“I think we desrved a clean sheet. We had better chances, not a lot of them but better half-chances. We could not finish it off with a goal or two goals so we had to hang in there and the guys did that. Overall we deserved to beat Porto but it was tough 180 minutes.”
Chelsea head to the semifinal, waiting for the winner between the Real Madrid vs Liverpool’s game.
