Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona midfield sensation Frenkie de Jong at the end of the season.

Despite Todd Boehly's £1bn transfer splurge, the Blues are reportedly not ready to tone down on their transfer spending with Frenkie de Jong emerging as a top transfer target for the Blues.

According to sport, Chelsea, who have splashed over £200m on midfield duo Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are still hopeful of adding a high-profile no.6 with the experience of De Jong to the squad.

The club are reportedly ready to spend as much as €100m to sign Frenkie de Jong.

De Jong, 29, has been a long-term transfer target for Manchester United. Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag had worked with the Netherlands international at Ajax before he joined Barcelona in 2019. Before signing Casemiro, ten Hag pushed for a move to De Jong and reached a £73m agreement for the player. Barcelona were open to selling Frenkie de Jong but the player turned down the move.

Now, according to football journalist Lluis Canut, de Jong is open to leaving Barcelona. He is key to Xavi Hernandez's squad but has struggled for minutes due to injury and is reportedly unfazed by the club's apparent trophyless run this season.

Barcelona are also ready to offload the player to buckle the club's financial deadlock. Chelsea could be in competition with Manchester United for de Jong should the Red Devils decide to relaunch a bid for the player.

Arsenal are also said to be interested in a move for de Jong but would not splash out a hefty sum for the player.

The 29-year-old has two years remaining on his contract with Barcelona. Barcelona are certainly likely to part ways with De Jong than lose the player on a free transfer after next season.
