Todd Boehly has enraged Chelsea supporters by demanding the most expensive ticket price in Premier League history.
The ticket is for their clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
Seats behind where Mauricio Pochettino and his boys will stay will go for a humongous amount as part of the “Dugout Club” hospitality package.
Boehly brought on board the “Dugout Club” after becoming the owner of the club in 2022 and there is an alarm that corporate clients or rich fans are being prioritized over regular supporters.
The seats behind Pochettino will apparently cost a whopping sum of £5,000, which is an additional £2,000 higher than even the most expensive non-season ticket in the division, which can be found at Craven Cottage, Fulham's home.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Dom Rosso, vice-chair of Chelsea’s Supporters’ Trust bemoaned the move, saying:
“£5,000 is an alarming amount to spend on a ticket and is unaffordable for your ‘average football supporter’ – it is really poor that these influential seats behind the bench are being filled by corporate visitors.”
He added that many fans feel that the club has prioritized its guests ahead of loyal matchday supporters.
Rosso said: “More and more general admission seats at Stamford Bridge are being made unavailable and have been transferred to Club Chelsea - many fans feel like the club is prioritizing its Club Chelsea guests over loyal supporters.
“Record-breaking premium pricing has clearly increased matchday revenue and we sincerely hope that this additional income will be considered when deciding future general admission season ticket prices.”
Regular tickets to the “Dugout Club” have been sold for £700 so far this season, however, this impending move has left many fans displeased with the inflated price.
Well, despite a view of the back of Mauricio Pochettino's head being appealing to some, there are also other benefits to enjoy for the money to be paid in other venues.
For £5,000, you could afford to take yourself and 165 adult friends to watch Sheffield United against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
Additionally, Manchester City's costliest ticket being sold at £4,200 comes with its offerings, which include; exclusive transport to the Etihad Stadium from a City centre location, drinks and canapes reception.
Fans will also get the opportunity to meet and greet several legends of Manchester City; a behind-the-scenes stadium tour with a club legend; and a private talk from one of the analysts of the first team.
However, that is not the ending of the benefits, supporters will also get to see the teams in the glass player's tunnel, go pitchside to watch the players warm up, alongside enjoy a five-course fine dining experience with inclusive drinks.
They will also sit in luxury, padded, heated seats directly behind the team dugouts, meet some of the first-team players after the game; and have a personal photographer capturing the thrilling day.
Chelsea have not responded to the comments from the vice-chair of the supporters group, however, they were quick to point out that the seats in the “Dugout Club” were not previously in general admission.
Those who purchase the £5,000 ticket will get these offerings at Stamford Bridge, namely a chance to “greet the team as they arrive at Stamford Bridge in the player arrival area and venture pitchside to watch the warm-up”.
They will also enjoy awesome hospitality before and after the electric game witnessed at their London home.
