Under-pressure gaffer Mauricio Pochettino needed to keep the team on winning lanes as they gradually crawl out of the woods of a difficult start to the season.
Parading one of the most expensive squad in the Premier League, the Blues were expected to comfortably dispatch Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.
However, they faced a tough task taking on the Hatters who have bagged two straight wins in their last matches against Newcastle United and Sheffield United.
Chelsea raced into the lead against the hosts in the 12th minute. Former Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer came up clutch with the opener for the away side.
In the 37th minute, Noni Madueke doubled the lead for the Blues with a beautiful strike.
Despite trailing by two lone goals, Luton did little to mount a response as they struggle to register a bold presence in the game.
With forlorn passes, loose balls, and shaky defense, they were vulnerable to Chelsea's counters and offensives.
Chelsea continued to dominate proceedings despite leading comfortably but they could not add to the tally before the first-half break.
In the second half, it was the visitors still dominating proceedings but Luton Town put up an upbeat performance going forward.
Cole Palmer bagged his brace for the Blues in the 70th minute to make it 3-0 but Luton Town seemed unruffled with the score margin and were making concerted effort to pull a comeback.
Late in the game, Adebayo scored a brilliant header to reduce the deficit but the goal was ruled out for offside after VAR check.
In the 80th minute, former Chelsea and Everton star Ross Barkley scored a brilliant header for the home side to make it 3-1.
Seven minutes after Barkley's goal, Adebayo scored again for Luton Town poking home a rebound from close range to make it 3-2.
The hosts nearly got an equaliser with series of late chances but could not convert them. The match ended with Chelsea running out with a 3-2 victory to grab all three points.
The Blues are still stuck on 10th position on the table with 28 points while Luton Town are trapped on relegation zone on the 18th position with 15 points.
