Court directs DSS to grant Emefiele access to lawyers and his family members
The Department of State Services, (DSS) and its Director General, have been ordered by the court to grant Godwin Emefiele access to his lawyers and family members.
Godwin Emefiele was the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Recall he was arrested just recently due to misconduct.
It was an Abuja High Court sitting at Maitama, which ordered this access yesterday, Friday.
Godwin Emefiele has been in detention since last Saturday after his arrest.
He has now been given access to his lawyers and family members.
It was Justice Hamza Muazu who issued this order. This was after a fundamental right enforcement suit had been filed by Godwin Emefiele’s lawyers. The team of lawyers was led by Mr Joseph Daudu SAN who is a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA.
Daudu, SAN, had revealed to the court that he had written letters to the DSS requesting access to Emefiele who is his client. This was so that the team could take some instructions or information from Emefiele.
He says his letters of requests were not granted and he couldn't have access to his client.
Mr I Awo, who is the counsel for the DSS, denied these claims. He denies that the agency didn't grant access to Emefiele.
He then said DSS would comply with this order.
