The Court of Appeal has sacked the Plateau state Governor who is Caleb Mutfwang. It was a recent court of appeal sitting in Abuja that made the decision and sacked Caleb Mutfwang as the governor of Plateau State. His full name is Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang. He is 58 years old and was born on the 12th of March, 1965.

Gov. Caleb Mutfwang is a Nigerian politician and a lawyer. He began serving as the governor of Plateau State earlier this year, 2023. He was sworn in to the office of the governor in May 2023. He once served as the Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. He is of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Gov. Mutfwang had a total of 525,299 votes in the 2023 governorship election and his opponent from the opposition party which is Nentawe Goshwe, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had 481,370 votes. Recall the governorship election in Plateau State was held on the 18th of March 2023.
Nentawe Goshwe of the APC challenged governor Mutfwang's win in the election. He claimed at the tribunal that the governor was not validly nominated and sponsored by his party, which is PDP.

Another claim from the APC candidate was that there was non-compliance with the Electoral Act in the election on the part of Governor Mutfwang. The petition was dismissed by the panel of the tribunal which consisted of 3 members and was headed by Justice R. Irele-Ifijeh. They dismissed it saying the petition was lacking in merit.

Nentawe, who wasn't satisfied with this, appealed the tribunal judgement. The judgement was then given on Sunday and this time around the panel of the Court of Appeal which was led by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu, then revealed that truly, Caleb Mutfwang was not validly sponsored by the PDP for the election. She cited Section 177 of the Constitution to back this up.

She also revealed that PDP violated a court order which had directed them to conduct a valid congress in the 17 local government areas of that state but there is no valid evidence to attest that this was done before the sponsorship of both governorship candidates and others.
The court of appeal also noted that under Section 134 of the Electoral Act, 'it is the sole right of a political party to sponsor its candidate having met the requirements to do so'.

Moving forward, she then gave orders to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to retrieve the Certificate of Return that had been issued to the current governor Mutfwang and then issue a fresh certificate to be given to Nentawe Goshwe of the APC.
