Court sentences househelp to 14 years in jail for theft

A househelp was recently sentenced to 14 years in jail for theft. This househelp was sentenced for stealing various amounts of money from his employer. It was an Igbosere Magistrate Court sitting in Ebute-Metta that pronounced the sentence on him.

The court sitting was held on Thursday, and this housekeeper who has been identified as Emmanuel Robson was given 14 years in jail. It was Magistrate Oluwatosin Erinle sentenced him after he had pleaded guilty to the 15 counts. His jail term will run consecutively.

It was the police prosecutor, Inspector Cyriacus Osuji, who revealed to the court that he committed the offences between July 4 and 8, 2023. This was around 10am at No 6, Taiwo Osipitan Close, Parkview Estate-Ikoyi, in Lagos. He was accused of breaking into his employer’s master bedroom a d stole the security key kept in his employers store.

He broke into the home of his employer and stole a Toshiba Laptop which is worth N800,000. He also stole 4 gold wristwatches, a Puma wristwatch, some Euros, a diamond ring and many other items.

The prosecutor stated “Robson stole €2,000, £1,000, $1000, four gold wristwatches valued at N4m, puds valued at N450,000, stole eight hundred Qatar currency (800 Qatar Riyal) and one Puma wristwatch valued at N1.2m. Other items stolen were a Diamond ring and Necklaces valued at N100m, stole another necklace valued N5m, stole music box valued at N500,000, stole credit card, and a black platinum visa credit card, United Kingdom.”

The court then sentenced Emmanuel to 6 months imprisonment for count one, another 2 years for count two, 6 months for count three, and 1 year for counts four to six and these terms will run consecutively.
