Cristiano Ronaldo plans to halt the construction of a luxury £27 million hotel in Manchester after his planning permission expired in the city.
The planning permission ended on December 16, 2023, and no work had been permitted on the property.
Ronaldo had permission to build a CR7 151-room hotel in the heart of the city in England in December 2020, but it had been left to fall to pieces.
The hotel was supposed to commence operation in 2023. It had employed over 900 people, coupled with adding £56 million to the economy of Manchester.
Pictures from the proposed building showed exposed ceilings and paint peeling off the walls of the hotel.
A spokesman from the hotel group, Pestana, admitted that the project is in a risky situation.
The spokesman whose name was withheld said, "The next steps of the project are on hold, as the group is still working on permitting matters."
Apart from the horrible state of the hotel, there are also other pending issues that deal with the inability of some investors to get the required funds.
The hotel is a joint project between Pestana and developers Eastern Green called Southern Green Properties.
In September 2023, Pestana and Southern Green Properties wrote a letter to the Council of Manchester to request more time for the proposed project.
This letter was sent by Deloitte on behalf of the two organizations, saying, "Since planning permission and listed building consent were granted in 2020."
"However, a number of well-documented and unforeseen macroeconomic challenges have resulted in some delays in bringing forward this project."
"Southern Green Properties Ltd. continues to be fully committed to delivering the permitted scheme, which will provide a high-quality development and the restoration and long-term sustainable reuse of a grade II-listed heritage asset."
Although the council are currently frustrated, nothing has been done on the building.
However, there is currently no comment from Cristiano Ronaldo regarding the issue pertaining to the building.
