Daniel Regha took to his Twitter page to share that Asake is bigger than Rema. The 2 artists are famous Nigerian award-winning musicians. Asake's real name is Ahmed Ololade. He is a 28 year artist signed to Olamide's YBNL record Label. Rema on the other hand is a 23 year old musician signed to Jonzing World Record which is an affiliate of Mavin Records by Don Jazzy. His real name is Divine Ikubor.
Rema and Asake
Daniel shared that though Asake is better, Rema has more publicity because of Mavin Records and Don Jazzy. He feels that their influence helps Rema to gain popularity. He also claimed that 99% of Rema’s songs are recycled lyrics. He then added to the end of his tweet like he always does that no shade was intended. Recall that just recently Rema also sold out the 20,000-capacity London’s 02 Arena. He has joined the league of Davido, Asake, Wizkid and Burna Boy in selling out the 02 Arena.
In his words "Asake is a bigger artiste than Rema, but Rema gets better PR thanks to Don Jazzy’s influence & that of Mavin Records. Lyrically speaking Asake has more meaningful songs; Rema 99% of the time recycles lyrics. The only thing they have in common is that both are still upcomers, that’s all. No shades.”
In another tweet, he also felt Rema headlining the 02 Arena now wasn't a good idea and felt he still needed to grow some more. He stated
"Rema headlining The O2 Arena is a win for Mavin Records but not for him as an artiste; Truth be told it's way too early & this isn't what he needs now. At the moment his success doesn’t match his hype or talent, he has n¤ well-thought body of work aside from a few catchy songs. Don Jazzy should be focusing more on artist development to help create longevity, not just breaking records. Artistes need time to grow, rushing the process is never a good idea. No offense".
