Liverpool have returned to the summit of the Premier League following a 3-1 victory over Burnley at Anfield.
It was a cagey affair as the match kicked off with the Reds looking to ease pass the Clarets who struggling in the drop zone.
It was not the best start for Liverpool as Burnley steadily controlled proceedings from the start of the game. The visitors recorded the first big chance of the game but could not make it count.
Liverpool began to make headway into the game in the 20th minute and it was not long before they raced into the lead.
Alexander-Arnold found an unmarked Diogo Jota with his outswinger from a corner-kick. Jota beat Burnley's goalkeeper and headed home the Reds' first goal. After the lead, Burnley broke forward with more players trying to find an equaliser but could not make anything happen. Meanwhile, Liverpool were still on the ascendancy, dominating proceedings and looking set to double the lead. The Reds came close to another big chance to extend the lead but squandered it. At the stroke of the first half, Burnley found the back of the net through O'Shea's header from a corner-kick. A lackluster defense by Liverpool saw the Clarets resurrect hopes of a possible comeback with a goal. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw and Liverpool needed to do more to see off the determined visitors at Anfield.
Charged to return to the lead in the second 45, Liverpool dominated proceedings, pushing the Clarets to the back as the second half kicked off. A fiery attacking flair and a dominant control of proceedings saw Burney drop down deep into their half.
Liverpool continued to mount pressure and finally fired themselves in the lead again in the 52nd minute, thanks to Luis Diaz's beautiful header.
Burnley began to break out gradually from their half in search of another equaliser but were dealt another blow when Darwin Nunez scored Liverpool's third goal through another header to put the game beyond the visitors.
The game ended with the Reds grabbing a deservedly 3-1 victory to go top of the Premier League again after being overtaken by Manchester City.
