Darwin Nunez's last-minute header hands Liverpool a crucial victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Nuno Espírito Santo's side were brazen against the Reds, as they tried to thwart the efforts of the league leaders.

Jurgen Klopp's side were blunt on many occasions in attack, with Nottingham Forest smothering several chances of Liverpool.

In the 17th minute, Robertson made a run through the left before finding Diaz on the edge of the area.

The Colombian aimed his attempt across the goal, but Andrew Omobamidele stuck out a foot to block it, and his deflection went wide off the near post.

Seven minutes before half of the hour mark, Nottingham Forest quenched an attacking move of Liverpool, before instantly going on a counter.

Anthony Elanga got in between Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate to drive into the area, unfortunately, Caoimhin Kelleher rushed out and stuck out a leg to deny the low strike from the Englishman.

Both teams battled hard in the remaining minutes of the first 45, but none had anything to outwit the other.

In the second 45, chances also fell aplenty to either team, with an attempt early on from Andrew Robertson being deflected wide by Omobamidele.

Four minutes after the hour mark, Liverpool played swashbuckling football, moving the ball from right to left, in a bid to carve open Nottingham Forest.

Luis Diaz threaded a pass to Darwin Nunez, who was in an acute angle, and his effort at goal just skimmed past the side of the net.

In the 66th minute, the Tricky Trees also got a massive chance, with Callum Hodson-Odoi cooking the ball into the area for Taiwo Awoniyi.

Awoniyi had to battle pressure from Konate, and he served the ball to Harry Toffolo, whose cross landed in the path of Anthony Elanga.

Elanga's immediate strike went just wide off the post, with Liverpool heaving a massive sigh of relief.

Two minutes into stoppage time, the Reds were throwing everything into the kitchen sink, with Luis Diaz sending a dangerous cross into the goal area, but Darwin Nunez couldn't stretch enough for him to reach the ball and the opportunity went begging.

The stoppage time witnessed bursting and pyrotechnic football from both teams, with both teams seeing many chances late on.

Konstantinos Tsimikas swung a corner for Liverpool into the area, but it was too high for Darwin Nunez and it hit Forest's Murillo, who was behind him.

Murillo wasn't aware of the situation, with his header bouncing towards goal, but Matz Sels sprawled out his arm to keep it out on the line.

Meanwhile, the Tricky Trees broke quickly on the counter in the dying embers of the game, with Hudson-Odoi running down the left channel, before putting a cross to the edge of the area.

Morgan Gibbs-White was rightly positioned and he had room to smash a quaking shot, but captain Virgil Van Dijk provided a timely block to change the direction of the ball wide.

Right in the 9th minute of added time, a miracle was witnessed at the City Ground, as Darwin Nunez poached home the all-important goal of the game.

Tsimikas connected to an initial corner and volleyed an attempt towards goal which was blocked by Morgan Gibbs-White.

Nottingham Forest couldn't clear their lines, with Alexis Mac Allister deftly moving past Hudson-Odoi before floating a magnificent cross into the far post.

Darwin Nunez rose highest above Neco Williams to meet the ball, before nodding the ball past Forest goalie Sels and into the bottom corner.

Liverpool moved 4 points clear at the summit of the table, pending the result of the game involving second-placed Manchester City and rivals Manchester United.

Jurgen Klopp might just be ending his reign at Anfield with the Premier League title, having already won the Carabao Cup this campaign.
