Former Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has snubbed Premier League clubs in his new transfer decision as he nears return to footballing action.
The 33-year-old legendary goalkeeper is still a free agent eight months after leaving Manchester United following the expiration of his contract.
De Gea has been linked to Premier League return after his storied 12-year career with Manchester United. Before United goalkeeper Andre Onana departed for AFCON, De Gea was linked to a return to Old Trafford on a short-term deal to stand in for Onana.
Another Premier League outfit Newcastle United also wanted to sign him as a replacement for their first-choice goalkeeper Nick Pope who was set for a lengthy injury layoff.
Now, according to a report by The Sun De Gea is not ready to entertain offers coming from Premier League clubs again.
The report adds sources close to the Spaniard have revealed he wants to be close to his home in Spain and wants to welcome offers from La Liga clubs only.
Few La Liga clubs are interested in signing David De Gea. His former club Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in signing him. Real Sociedad and Athletic Bilbao are also interested.
De Gea left Manchester United as an unsung hero after the club, under the auspices of new manager Erik ten Hag, presented a padded contract twice to the player.
De Gea accepted Manchester United's first new contract proposal despite having his wages slashed. It was understood United withdrew the first offer, reduced the wage again, and presented it back to the player. This time, he turned down the offer and chose to leave the club.
Since his Manchester United exit, he has been linked with moves to Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, including Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia but has turned down the offers.
