West Ham manager and former Everton and Man United boss David Moyes has reacted to Ghana blocking Mohammed Kudus from playing for the Hammers in the Premier League match against Brighton.

After a sensational back-to-back win over Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal, West Ham stumbled to a barren draw at home against Brighton.

The Hammers had hoped to build on their victories over United and Arsenal but were held by Roberto de Zerbi's boys at London Stadium.

The absence of the former Ajax star in the Hammer's lineup against the Seagulls apparently took a toll on the team's strength, especially in the attack.

West Ham struggled in front of goals, and ended up sharing spoils with the visitors.

Why Ghana blocked Mohammed Kudus from playing for West Ham

Kudus was expected to feature for the Hammers in the game against the Seagulls. The match would have been his last game before joining Ghana national team camp in preparations for 2023 AFCON. Unfortunately, the game clashed with the day Ghana asked Kudus to report to the Black Stars' preparatory camp for the tournament.

As per reports, Ghana had already written West Ham to release the player for the continental showpiece, hence West Ham could not feature him in the Brighton match.

David Moyes was overly unimpressed with Ghana blocking Kudus from featuring against Brighton. Speaking after the match, the veteran manager described Ghana's move as unfair as other African players were still allowed by their national teams to play for their clubs.

David Moyes said;

"It’s been a fair programme for this time of year for what it could be, but our programme before that wasn’t overly fair. You could argue about fairness in terms of not being able to play Mohammed Kudus or Nayef Aguerd tonight, but other teams could play their African players,"

Mohammed Kudus has enjoyed a scintillating start to life in the Premier League since joining the club from Ajax last summer. He has scored 10 goals for the club in 24 appearances across all competitions.

Elsewhere, Ghana international Thomas Partey is expected to miss 2023 AFCON. The Arsenal star is still nursing his injury, and is among high-profile African footballers set to miss the tournament.
