What is Inec?

The full meaning of INEC is Independent National Electoral Commission. INEC is the Nigerian electoral body that oversees election processes in Nigeria. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was founded in 1988. It was established by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The purpose of the electoral body is to organize elections alonsgide other functions.

The INEC website gives people the opportunity to see certain information about the electoral body, Election in Nigeria, processes registration links and portals etc. According to the information on the website, there are 93,469,008 (93 million, 469 thousand and 8) Registered Voters in Nigeria, 176,846 (176 thousand and 846) Polling Units in Nigeria and then there are 19 Registered and recognised Political Parties in Nigeria.

There is a website or portal for Nigerians to check their PVC (permanent voters card). It is a Voter Registration Portal which allows the voters who have been registered for elections to keep track of their PVC application status. They can also get the location of their PVC collection center.

The full meaning of VIN is Voters identification number. The website to check this is shared below.
To check this, you need to fill in your details like
  1. State of Registration
  2. Local Government of Registration
  3. Last Name
  4. First Name
  5. Date Of Birth; day, month and year.
  6. Click check status

There are various ways to check your name on the INEC website. You can either check the INEC website, the list released by INEC or sending them an SMS message.

The official INEC website also has a portal where you can check for your name. You meed your details like name and date of birth or voter’s identification number (VIN) to check.
