Didier Deschamps has stood behind Paul Pogba, expressing that he doesn't believe that the footballer intentionally got involved with doping.

Deschamps shared that he can't “be insensitive” to the footballer's plight, given his contributions to the national team of France.

Pogba was slammed with a four-year ban from football, due to his involvement in doping, with the footballer displeased by the verdict.

Paul Pogba has maintained that he didn't intentionally take enhancement substances, to improve his performance on the pitch or put himself in an advantageous position whilst playing football.

Following the judgment delivered by the Italian anti-doping tribunal, the 30-year-old made it known that he would proceed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to appeal the decision.

Pogba has had a wishy-washy football career, having developed through the ranks at Manchester United.

The Frenchman exited Old Trafford to join Juventus on August 3, 2012, on a free transfer, before returning to England on August 9, 2016, for a then-world record transfer fee of €105 million.

Paul Pogba didn't deliver up to expectations at Manchester United, as he failed to hit the heights he got to in Italy.

After 6 years in the north of England, Pogba returned to Juventus on a free transfer on July 11, 2022, with the midfielder subsequently battling several injury issues.

He also failed to exude brilliance at the Turin-based club, with the midfielder suffering his current ordeal following a game where he was an unused substitute.

Paul Pogba was kept on the bench for Juventus' league opener against Udinese in August 2023.

Massimiliano Allegri's side won the game, but a test done after the encounter came back with the midfielder testing positive for the banned substance DHEA, which naturally enhances testosterone levels.

Pogba was handed a provisional ban in September 2023, and he has been out of action since then.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner suspension runs from September 11, 2023, to September 10, 2027.

Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport indicate that Juventus are considering terminating the contract of the Frenchman, a move that would compound more misery for the Frenchman.

Speaking in an interview regarding Paul Pogba, Didier Deschamps as quoted by L'Equipe said:

“I don’t believe for a minute that Pogba intended to or wanted to dope,” Deschamps said as quoted by L’Équipe.

“Just like the judgment announced by the Italian anti-doping tribunal on Thursday, what Paul has experienced these past months has been extremely difficult and I can’t be insensitive to his pain, given what he has done with the national team and the relationships that have been formed with the France national team.

“His situation saddens me and I really hope that things will work out.”

Paul Pogba has made 423 club appearances, scoring 73 goals and providing 92 assists in all competitions.

Internationally, he has made 91 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists.

It will be interesting to see the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport on the matter, given that they are Pogba's current and possibly only hope with regards to saving his football career.
