The UK Police have charged the former Minister of Petroleum and president of OPEC, Diezani Alison-Madueke to court for alleged bribery.
According to reports yesterday, the UK Police said the former minister had received bribes in exchange for awarding multi million pound projects for oil and gas.
They said, "We suspect Diezani Alison-Madueke abused her power in Nigeria and accepted financial rewards for awarding multi-million-pound contracts.
These charges are a milestone in what has been a thorough and complex international investigation."
Ever since Diezani left office in 2015 after serving as Petroleum minister for the Jonathan administration, she has been investigated for bribery and corruption but often denied the charges.
However, the National Crime's Agency (NCA) International Corruption Unit said the former president of OPEC benefited greatly from over 100,000 pounds in cash and assets, spreading to luxury items, family vacations, private jets, designer items etc.
The Police reported that the court hearing for Diezani's case will begin on October 2, 2023 at Westminster Magistrates Court in London.
