Suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, challenged his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS). He allegedly accused them of detaining him and not granting him access to his lawyers and family.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and DSS requested the Federal Capital High Court not to grant Emefiele bail because he is a flight risk.

The two bodies dismissed the allegations and claimed that Emefiele filed the fundamental rights enforcement suits in an attempt to flee the country.

DSS also said that suspended CBN Governance was detained "Upon reasonable suspicion of committing acts which constitute a criminal breach of trust, incitement to violence, criminal misappropriation of public funds, economic sabotage, economic crimes of national security dimension and undermining the security of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

In the affidavit presented to the court, OAGF claimed that, "The respondents have not violated the applicant’s right to live in any way, his life is not in danger. The respondents did not subject the applicant to any judicial adjudication to warrant the allegation of denial of a fair hearing.

“With the remand order issued by a court of competent jurisdiction, the said violation of the applicant’s right to freedom of movement does not arise.

The respondents did not subject the applicant to any torture, the details of which have not been provided.”

The representative of OAGF, Tijani Gazal, urged the court to dismiss the suit filed by Emefiele, emphasizing that his rights are not being violated in any way.

Afterward, Justice Hamza Muazu adjourned the case until July 13, and DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, further reiterated that Emefiele was never denied access to his family and medical officials since his detainment.
