EFCC and ICPC arrests 69 people for alleged voters inducement.


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offenses Commission (ICPC) have made arrests of about 69 people for allegedly inducing votes.

They made the arrest on Saturday, March 18, 2023. The arrest happened was while they were monitoring the governorship and state Assembly elections.

The EFCC arrested 65 persons while the remanined 4 were arrested by the ICPC.

The ICPC said they arrested the four vote-buyers in Sokoto and in Katsina state.

During the 2023 presidential elections in February, they also made arrests of 9 people for his same crime.
They made these arrests in Osun, Ondo, Awka Ibom and Sokoto states in February.

Azuka Ogugua who is the spokesperson for the ICPC mentioned while nfirmjg this news that the ICPc officials met some of these one buyers in Bodingo, Bodinga Local Government Area in Sokoto State.

She mentioned that the team in Sokoto State arrested 3 men who were vote buyers. One of these men was caught with a sun of N38,000 in cash, 2 PVCs, 1 ATM card and a phone.

Another one of them had CFA228,000 in his possession that was been given to voters while the last man had some PVCs in his possession.

While carrying out the arrest of these men, the team was also attacked and one of the officers had sustained a head injury from stones being thrown at him. She mentioned he has been admitted into the hospital and is now stable.

Meanwhile the ICPc team in Katsina arrested a 35-year-old man. He was arrested for vote buying in Tashar Yamma Polling Unit in Zango Local Government Area in Katsina.

The man claimed he was just an observer at another poling unit but he was found in Tashar Yamma and he had a sum of N20,000 with him. The money was in different denominations.

Wilson Uwujaren who is the Head, Media and Publicity, for EFCC, mentioned that some people were also arrested in ilorin, Kaduna and port Harcourt for some of the crimes.

He mentioned that the in Port Harcourt 12 suspects were arrested for indung votes.

He mentioned how investigations were still being conducted. He's men who have money or make transfers to people to induce their votes.

He mentioned that about 20 suspects were arrested from Kwara State by the Ilorin Zonal Command.
They caught them with certain materials like notebooks that contain voters names, cash and voters cards.


Some of these men while being interrogated confessed o be party agents who gave people money.
