Mohamed Salah's sojourn at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations could be over following a hamstring injury against Ghana.

Salah was substituted in the 2nd minute of additional time in the first 45 minutes on Thursday, January 18, 2024, during the country's 2-2 draw with the Black Stars.

According to the Egyptian FA, Mohamed Salah suffered a hamstring injury and he will be unavailable for the country's next two games.

He will play no part in their last group clash against Cape Verde and their last 16 encounter, if they make it to the 2nd round.

The Pharaohs sit 2nd in Group B after failing to pick up victories in their first two games, sharing the spoils with Mozambique and Ghana.

Egypt are in a delicate position, as they will now need a victory against group leaders Cape Verde to book a spot in the next round.

Cape Verde have been stellar in the group phase, picking 2 wins out of 2, and they have ultimately secured a spot in the last 16.

Egypt will have to battle hard to get a victory in their final group game, with the absence of Mohamed Salah being a massive blow to the team.

Salah scored a stoppage-time penalty against Mozambique on Sunday, January 14, 2024, to help the Pharaohs secure a draw.

The 31-year-old was however holding back tears as he exited the turf against Ghana on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

Mohamed Salah may play no further part in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations if Egypt fails to reach the quarter-final.

Jurgen Klopp noted that he saw the African Cup of Nations clash where Salah got injured and he was “shocked” by the knock to his star man.

Liverpool boss Klopp has not ruled out the possibility of the Anfield club's medical team flying to Egypt to offer treatment to the former Chelsea man.

The German tactician said: “I spoke last night with him and how it is with these injuries — you need further assessment. That’s what they are doing now and then we will know more.

“Of course, it was in that moment a shock: ‘Oh my God, what is it?’. You have these kinds of hamstring injuries in a different way but he felt it."

Jurgen Klopp was also questioned if the Reds will send their medical team to Ivory Coast to access Mohamed Salah and he didn't give a definitive answer, he said:

“There will be an ultrasound and they will do an MRI.

“Then we will know what it is and we will see what Egypt plans. But it’s too early to say.”

Mohamed Salah has made 96 appearances for the 7-time Africa Cup of Nations champions, scoring 54 goals and providing 32 assists.
