Newcastle United and England shot-stopper Nick Pope suffered an injury during his side's 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Saturday, November 2, 2023.

Pope apparently sustained a dislocated shoulder injury after diving for a shot during the second 45, and he ultimately had to be replaced by Martin Dubravka.

Newcastle United are plagued with injury issues this campaign, and Nick Pope being the latest casualty is a massive blow for the Magpies.

Several key players are already out injured this campaign for Eddie Howe's side, including; Callum Wilson and Dan Burn.

Speaking with the BBC on the injury to Nick Pope, Eddie Howe said:

“I don't know what the future holds for Nick, whether he'll need an operation or not.

“It looks bad. It looks like a dislocation of his shoulder, which he has done before. He had it operated on and came back successfully.

“We'll get it checked out and fingers crossed he's back soon.”

Nick Pope joined Newcastle United from Burnley on July 1, 2022, for a fee of €11.5 million.

The 31-year-old has made 62 appearances for the Magpies, amassing 26 clean sheets so far.

Eddie Howe also talked about how massive the absence of Pope will be felt by the club, and the nature of injury the Englishman sustained.

Speaking in an interview with TNT Sports, Howe added: “It will be a massive blow for us if he is ruled out for any length of time, It looked really innocuous, but that is usually the way and they are normally the more serious ones.

“You could see he was in distress and it looked like he dislocated his shoulder just diving.”

Nick Pope has made 20 appearances for Newcastle United this campaign, keeping just 8 clean sheets.

The Magpies will be banking on Dubravka to deliver in goal and deputize in place of the England international.

Martin Dubravka joined Newcastle United from Sparta Prague on July 1, 2018, for a fee of €4 million.

The 34-year-old has made 135 appearances for the Magpies, amassing 40 clean sheets thus far.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United look to be getting back in top form in the league, after their shaky start to the season.

They have picked up back-to-back impressive results against Chelsea and Manchester United, which has seen them rise to 5th on the Premier League table, with 26 points from 14 matches.

The Magpies have a lot to do in Europe if they are to qualify to the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, but they might be contented with remaining in Europe and playing in the Europa League.

Eddie Howe's side return to action on Thursday, December 7, 2023, facing Everton in a Matchday 15 action in the English Premier League.
