Enugu building collapse leads to death of 4 siblings
A building which collapsed recently in Enugu State has led to the death of 4 siblings. 4 children from the same parents died in this tragic incident after the building collapsed on them.
It was the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency (ECTDA) who confirmed the death of these 4 siblings. The incident occurred at Agric Quarters, Mgbemena, in the Coal Camp area in Enugu State.
Mr Uche Anya who is the Chairman of ECTDA revealed this yesterday, Saturday September 2. This was after he had visited the site where the incident occured. The building which collapsed was a bungalow. This happened around 8pm on Friday September 1 after heavy rainfall.
He revealed that this holding was originally approved for animal husbandry but was eventually converted to a residential building. He shared that this building was not safe enough for humans to live. The house had about 44 rooms and also about 200 residents.
He revealed that as soon as they were contacted, they went to the scene. He shared that the incident was like a 'disaster waiting to happen'. He shared the things he noticed about the busiking stating that people shouldn't have been allowed to live inside this building.
He stated “As soon as we got the intelligence, we rushed to the place. Four children died in the episode. It was a disaster waiting to happen. The construction was irresponsible. The place should never have been occupied by human beings. In fact, go there and see. Apparently, they claim that they are doing animal husbandry and poultry there but it turned out that there are 44 rooms that human beings are occupying and there must be a population of over 200 people there. The fence line was totally unacceptable; nobody does that, and unfortunately, the people we lost in that tragedy are innocent children and it is very painful,”
