Enugu police arrest four suspects for ATM fraud


4 suspects have been arrested in Enugu State for Automated Teller Machine (ATM) fraud.
The officers of the Enugu State Police Command made the arrest on the 6th of May, 2023.

They revealed that these men are involved in swapping ATM cards. They had defrauded an elderly man of 63 years old of a sum of N495,000.

The suspects include 3 males and a female. They were arrested on the the 6th of May but were arraigned in court last Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

The command’s Hawk Tactical Squad had collaborated with troops of the Nigerian Air Force Enugu and made the arrest.

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, released a statement. In the stamens he revealed the names of the suspects and they are Michael Sopuruchi, Osinachi Godwin, Moses Ani and Chika Nwoko.

These men were trying to escape to their hideout when they were arrested. They had stolen the ATM card and Personal Identification Number of this elderly man who didn't suspect anything.

They had pretended to assist him to withdraw at the Bank ATM in Enugu.

As soon as they had tiken the card, they withdrew a sum of N495,000 from the account of the victim.

During investigation, these suspects confessed to these crimes and revealed they had done many more of such in Enugu.

The police were able to recover four banks’ ATM cards from them including the one belonging to the 65 year old man

They were then arraigned in court on Tuesday and have been remanded in Enugu Custodial Centre.

The magistrate adjourned the case till June 7, 2023.
