According to the World Bank, pollution kills at least 30,000 people in Lagos every year.

This was revealed in a blog post on the bank's website titled "Making Lagos a Pollution-Free City: Solving the Threat One Solution at a Time."

Pollution is a major worry in many cities throughout the world, according to the bank, including Lagos, which is known for its massive population, high concentration of motor vehicles, and industrial pollutants.

According to the bank, Lagos has a population of approximately 20 million people, resulting in a toxic combination of air pollution, single-use plastic pollution, and solid rubbish in the city's streets, causing respiratory problems, flooding, and other illnesses among residents.

The causes of pollution are various, and pollution has many repercussions on the environment." Every year, at least 30,000 people are predicted to die in Lagos as a result of pollution.

Air pollution caused approximately 30,000 early deaths in Lagos in 2020, with more than half of them being infants under the age of one year, it continued.

The bank also warned about the financial repercussions of lead aerosol exposure in Ikorodu, which are projected to be $300–$600 million, or $400–600 for each inhabitant of that LGA.

Mrs Rita Ehinmetan, the Environmental Officer of the General Hospital in Ijede, asked members of the public to continue cultivating the practice of cleaning the environment in order to make it habitable for everyone and future generations.

She emphasized the importance of fiercely guarding and protecting the environment for the health and well-being of all people, plants, and animals.
