Erosion in Anambra State destroys some properties worth millions.
Erosion which occured in Anambra State has swallowed up some properties which are worth millions of naira
The people of Anambra has been experiencing serious issues of Erosion which has destroyed roads, buildings and other properties in the state.
This most recent one occured in Onitsha. It happened in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.
Some properties which are estimated to be worth over N200 million have been swept away and destroyed.
This erosion has been creating a huge gully in this area and this has led to several buildings being affected.
This gully kept expanding and even caused one lane of a road in Oba to collapse. The path was then blocked hence the erosion was diverted to the stadium which has now been swallowed up as well.
It was the sports facility investor who shared how sad it was to see the stadium being affected by the flood and erosion. E shared that the flood water has swept into the stadium causing destruction.
The manager of the stadium who is Johnny Obinwa has also expressed his sadness over this incident also noting this property is worth millions.
He revealed that every time rain falls so matter how little, leads to serious flooding in the state.
Water flow now runs into the Stadium from the expressway because the water channel has been blocked.
He shared that the flood caused more damage including destroying their perimeter fences and destroying The Ogilisi Garden.
He says that the erosion really had a great impact and the cost to repair these things will be huge.
Senator Victor Umeh who is representing Anambra Central Senätorial District, alongside a team of some other government officials like the Chief of Staff to Governor Soludo, Ernest Ezeajughi and some others had visited the affected sites.
They have made pleas to the federal government to intervene in the matter urgently.
Mr Ezeajughi revealed that there were over 1,000 active erosion sites in Anambra State. He shared that it is very important that tgey commence some of this immediately.
He says because of the urgency they won't be waiting for the federal government, even though it is their responsibility.
The Commissioner for Works in Anambra State , Ifeanyi Okoma has said that they are in contact with the Federal Ministry of Works and Federal Road Maintenance Agency, (FERMA). He shared that its a long process but working will be done.
