Evacuation of Nigerians set to start today as FG releases N150m and hires 40 buses

The Federal Government of Nigeria is set to start evacuation of Nigerians in Sudan today. Recall that since the conflict in Sudan started, Nigerians have pleaded with the FG to evacuate them.

The evacuation will commence today as the Federal Government has released a sum of N150m and have also hired 40 buses since the evacuation will be by road.

They are set to evacuate over 5,000 citizens which included students and other cities that are startled in Sudan.

The buses will convey the people from Sudan to Egypt.
They paid this huge amount to a transport company on Tuesday to carry this out.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa who is the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, confirmed this on Tuesday saying payment had been made and that on Wednesday morning which is today, evacuation will begin.

The evacuation is taking place within the 72 hour (3 day) ceasefire of the Sudan conflict.
Recall yesterday, an agreement was reached for a 3 day ceasefire in Sudan so counties could evacuate their nationals.

Countries like France, Japan, Saudi Arabia and the European Union have taken this opportunity and have also evacuated their people from Sudan.

The conflict in Sudan has now entered its second week. This conflict has claimed thousands of lives and many also injured.

Many foreigners began to flee when this broke out. Many have also been displaced from their homes.

Dr Onimode Bandele who is the Director of Special Duties, in the National Emergency Management Agency mentioned that the government met with Egyptian government officials to arrange how to move their people through Egypt

Recall that the National Association of Nigerian Students had earlier arranged the transportation of some of the Nigerian students who were stranded in Sudan to pass through Ethiopia but were denied access by the authorities in Ethiopia because they didn't have security clearance.
