Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson's brother-in-law, Maximilian Helgi Ivarsson, killed himself by accident on September 8, 2020, using a shotgun. The late 11-year-old Icelandic boy reportedly took the shotgun from a locked cupboard and mistakenly shot himself with it.
As of the time of publishing this report, it has not been confirmed who owned the shotgun. Maximilian Helgi Ivarsson's father was said to be fond of hunting in the area of Gardabaer, near Reykjavik in Iceland. Hence, it is suspected that he owns the gun.
At first, the incident did not gain much publicity until recently when the family of the Icelandic boy published the obituary of the boy in the Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið.
The boy was a half brother to 31-year-old Alexandra Alexandra Ívarsdóttir, the wife of Everton's Gylfi Sigurdsson. After the incident, the Everton attacking midfielder didn't mention anything about it on any of his social media platforms or in the press.
Instead, five days after the incident, the 31-year-old Iceland international played against Tottenham Hotspur in a Premier League match that ended 1-0 in favor of Everton. Three days later, Sigurdsson was in action against Salford City in an EFL Cup round-2 match which ended 3-0 in favor of Everton.
More so, the midfielder was in action for Everton on Saturday, September 19, when Carlos Ancelotti's side beat West Brom 5-2 in a Premier League match.

Though Gylfi Sigurdsson did not make any public reaction to the untimely demise of his brother-in-law, Maximilian Helgi Ivarsson, the Premier League star participated in crafting the obituary of the Icelandic boy.
In the obituary, the family of the 11-year-old Icelandic boy described Maximilian as “conscious, hardworking and bright”. The family also said the boy had a "big kind eys".
“It breaks our hearts to write these words", the obituary read.
“The first word that comes to our minds is gratitude. Gratitude to have been able to be with you during this short time you were here and enjoy your wonderful presence.”
Gylfi Sigurdsson got engaged with Alexandra Ivarsdottir on July 7, 2018. She was the 2008 miss Iceland who represented the country in the 2008 miss World beauty pageant in South Africa. They got married in June 2019. They are both living in Merseyside in England.
