Nigerian singer Akinwale Joseph popularly known as Joeboy, has given his honest opinion on Burna Boy's statement about the Afrobeats genre having no substance.
Contrary to Burna Boy's belief, Joeboy said he feels every artist has substance but it depends on what the audience can relate to.
He mentioned that most fans put artists that sing in English in higher regard than those who use their own language.
He said, "I used to see some comments. Because someone is singing in plain English, they say the person has a pen game. Is it because he sang in English? It annoys me so much."
He said the best way to catch the audience's attention as an artist is to write songs in English. In no time, they will regard that artist as the best songwriter ever but if it's in pidgin, it's the other way round.
He added that though we may not be able to connect with every form of music we listen to but anyone who can create something out of nothing is substance.
