FAAN tells illegal occupants to vacate airport lands
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has asked all illegal occupants on the airport land to vacate the area. They told them to move for their own security and safety.
It was Mrs Faithful Hope-Ivbaze who is the Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, that revealed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos state.
She said that they would begin to carry out removal of illegal structures on the airports similar to other airports facing this.
She revealed this in relation to the 14 houses that were demolished recently that posed a threat to operations of the Lagos airport
She said that FAAN had noticed encroachment on the land in 2020 and had begun investigations to warn such people against it.
They evaluated 254 buildings and only 220 were recommended for regularization and didn't pose a threat to the Airport.
The remaining 34 were marked for demolition since they were built on aviation pipeline for fuel and waterways.
She also said they had told the occupants of this issue and the demolition that would take place.
She mentioned that in a meeting held, they understood the danger of building on a pipeline or waterway.
She said some occupants agreed and cooperated while some others ignored it.
