FCDA set to demolished over 2,000 houses in Abuja estate

The Federal Capital Development Authority are set to commence the demolition of about 2,000 houses in an estate in Abuja.

These houses are located in the Trademore area in the Federal Capital Territory. This will most likely commence today, Monday.

It was Adewale Adenaike who is the President of the Trademore Resident Association who revealed this during an interview.

He mentioned that this is a planned demolition operation and also revealed that if they do carry this out, over 40,000 residents would be displaced from their homes.

He also cleared the rumour which said that this area was an illegal settlement. He said they described it as an illegal settle but had come to collect their votes there as they had 3 police units so he said its not an illegal settlement. He says they also come to collect electricity bills.

He said that they have informed the authorities ahead of time that they were coming to begin the demolition of these houses today.

He revealed that a section of the estate had been commissioned by the former Vice President, Namadi Sambo years ago.

Hr also revealed that about 99% of the houses in this area are financed by Federal Mortgage Bank. He revealed all these while supporting his claim that this area wasn't an illegal settlement.

The reason behind this demolition is coming after the authorities in FCT had declared the estate a disaster zone. This was after the serious flooding incident which occurred at the Phase 2 end of the estate. This was after the heavy rain which fell last week and flooded the area.

Dr Abbas Idriss who is the Director-General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency said that they made the decision due to the constant flooding in the estate.
They said it posed a threat and risk to lives.

They already told the residents in the area to evacuate the area. They have joined forces with the FCT Police Command and have provided a place for them.
