FEC approves $984.7m for the maintenance of NRC equipment
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a sum of $984. 7 million for the maintenance of NRC equipment.
They approved this amount so as to procure the maintenance equipment which is needed to maintain the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) equipment.
Reports state that FEC also approved an additional N5 Billion and thus is for providing accommodation to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) staff.
Mu’azu Sambo who is the minister of transportation and also Abubakar Malami who is the attorney general and minister of Justice disclosed this information.
They revealed this information at the weekly council meeting when they briefed the state house correspondent and this was presided over by the president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
The meeting was held on Wednesday in Abuja.
These NRC equipment are for the Kano-Maradi rail line which connects Nigeria with a neighboring country, Niger Republic.
The also revealed that the ministry on behalf of the Nigerian Railway Corporation presented a memorandum
This was to seek the consideration and approval of the Council regarding the maintenance equipment for this rail line that is still being constructed.
They mentioned the contract was given to the company handling the project and this sum of money was also given. The completion period is 4 years.
The Minister of Justice said the Council approved N5 billion and this is for the construction of a residential accommodation for the NDLEA staff or officers.
He mentioned this was necessary so as to secure the lives and property of these officers as they have been successful in fighting Drug cartels.
This is because due to these successes, there have been threats and attacks on the officials of the agency.
