The federal government blamed Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), for the murder of Chike Akunyili, the husband of the former director-general of the National Agency for Food Management and Control (NAFDAC), Pr Dora. Akunyili.

Kanu was also charged with the murder of Ahmad Gulak, a former presidential adviser, and more than 184 others in the southeast.

This emerges from a committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari to investigate Kanu, who is on trial for terrorism.

The 24-person committee included members from the Federal Department of Justice, the Federal Department of Information, the Nigerian Police, the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency, and the Defense Intelligence Agency.

The committee, chaired by the Federation Prosecutor General Abubakar Malami (SAN), said members of IPOB and the Eastern Security Network, when prompted by Kanu, carried out massive attacks on democratic institutions, particularly the establishment of the Independent National Elections Commission on the Obstruction of Democracy Trial in Nigeria.

He said 175 security guards were killed in the attacks, which took place between October 2020 and June 2021.

The report said in part: "Due to Nnamdi Kanu's incentive policy, IPOB members and #EndSARS protesters attacked and killed numerous security officers, destroyed several public and private facilities including police stations, police, public transport buses, and other facilities in the whole country.

“That Nnamdi Kanu continued to call on the members of the IPOB on October 21, 2020, via an online radio broadcast (Radio Biafra) to burn down all police stations and to kill the government security forces and security personnel (especially police officers) and public and private property were killed destroyed.

“That 175 IPOB / ESN security personnel were killed, including 128 police officers, 37 military personnel, and 10 other security agents. The murder of Nigerian People: There have been horrific murders of traditional leaders recently: Obi 1 from the Okwudor Autonomous Community, Eze E. Anayochukwu Durueburuo and Eze Sampson Osunwa from the Ihebineowerre Autonomous Community, and the murders of Dr. Alhaji Ahmed Gulak's murder on Jan. May 2021.

The committee found that following Nnamdi Kanu's broadcasts, 19 attacks on INEC facilities in Abia, Akwa-Ibom resulted in the destruction of offices and the fire of 18 INEC logistics vehicles, several election papers, ICT equipment, and devices. , Anambra, Cross River, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo state.

The presidential committee said 164 police stations and formations, including police headquarters in Owerri, Imo State, were attacked by IPOB / ESN, killing 128 police officers, while injuring 144 and destroying 628 vehicles.

He said 396 firearms and 17,738 ammunition were taken away during the IPOB / ESN attacks.

“That there have been three IPOB / ESN attacks against the Nigerian correctional service, including the NCOs headquarters in Owerri, Imo state, where 1,841 inmates escaped. That the headquarters of the Nigerian Immigration Service in Umuahia, Abia State, was also attacked by IPOB / ESN, which resulted in the death of an official, ”the report said.
