FG closes Eko Bridge once again for a 40 day reconstruction

The Federal Government has closed down Eko Bridge once again and this is for a period of 40 days for a repair.

It was the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, who made the announcement. She revealed that it would be closed for 40 days.

This is the Alaka-Costain-Iganmu section of Eko Bridge. She revealed that this closure and repair will commence on Sunday.

She revealed this in a statement yesterday, Thursday in Lagos State. This was in collaboration with the Lagos State Government.

She revealed the reason behind this and said it was because they have noticed some damages on some of the bridge components and this will be needing urgent work and repairs to be done on it.

She revealed that if they don't carry this out or if they delay it any further, it may compromise the structural stability of the entire bridge. This in turn may have adverse and unimaginable consequences and could endanger the Road users.

Recall that just recently the bridge was reopened after about 15 months of closure for some repairs. The governor of Lagos State had announced this on his Twitter after some repair work had been done.

Mrs Kesha also mentioned and she and the Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had announced that there would be sporadi closures that would be carried out as the repairs continue. This was during the opening of the Apongbon section of the bridge.

She says the reason for the slosure is so that the contractor, Messrs Buildwell Plants and Equipment Industries Ltd., can carry out the needed repairs so as to bring the brushed back to good use within the time he has to do so.

She says that the service lane which leads to Iponri will be available for use. They have also worked on some alternative routes for motorists who are coming from Western Avenue.

She pleaded with motorists to take to this and cooperate with the Traffic-Management Team that have been placed in the highway so that the work can progress. This team has been put there to ensure free flow of traffic while the repairs go on.

She then appreciated appreciated for their understanding and cooperation.
