FG says NAF will begin airlifting Nigerian Evacuees on Friday
The Federal Government has said that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) will begin to airlift the evacuated Nigerians today, Friday, April 28.
This is happening during the Sudan crisis. The FG of Nigeria alongside other countries ceased the opportunity to evacuate their people who were caught in the crisis during the 3 day ceasefire.
The NAF and Air Peace and some other Airlines will begin this process of flying them from Egypt back to Nigeria.
They have received clearance to fly to Egypt and will leave Abuja this morning.
It was Ms Janet Olisa of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who revealed this in a statement.
40 buses were hired to evacuate poepel from Sudan to transport them to Egypt and from Egypt, they will be airlifted. The first batch of 10 buses have already departed from Khartoum carrying 500 people.
Nigeria was able to liase with Egyt to aid in the evacuation process and provide certain amenities until these people are airlifted back to Nigeria.
The Federal Government also mentieodn that they are making arrangements to airlift the Nigerians who escaped on their own to some other countries around Sudan.
Some Nigerian students were able to escape to the Ethiopian border and were stranded for some days before they were allowed entry on the 24th of April. This was after some Nigerian leaders had intervened. Arrangements have been made for then as well.
The evacuation process is still ongoing and will continue until everyone has been evacuated safely.
