Premier League club West Ham United were stuck in a transfer fiasco having failed to complete documents for Benrahma and Pablo Fornals' deals before the January transfer window closes.
Benrahma was set to join Lyon in French Ligue 1 while Pablo Fornals was set to be loaned to Real Betis in La Liga.
The two transfer deals suffered a setback as West Ham could not completely process the deal before the transfer window closed on February 1, 2024.
While Real Betis remained mute after the almost-failed move for Fornals, Lyon were furious with West Ham for Benrahma's move.
The French outfit were reportedly set to televise live Benrahma signing a contract with the club only for the deal to break down in the final minutes.
Lyon club statement blasted West Ham for disrespecting the player in the question and the club but West Ham had a different opinion, as per the club's manager David Moyes.
According to David Moyes' Lyon went too far with their statement and would have waited to hear from West Ham why the deal broke down.
How FIFA stepped in to salvage the situation
After the deal failed to see the light of the day, the club chiefs reportedly wrote FIFA for a transfer deadline day that would allow the deals to go through.
As per Daily Mail, FIFA investigated the hiccups that led to the breakdown of the deals and granted the waiver for the clubs to go ahead and complete the deals after the transfer window was closed.
Benrahma has reportedly joined Lyon for £6.8m while Pablo Fornals has joined Real Betis on loan with a buy option worth £15million.
