Nigeria's national team interim coach Finidi George has shared his thoughts with reporters after training with the Super Eagles players ahead of their upcoming friendly games.
Coach Finidi George has said the feeling has been good, with the players resuming training at the team camp ahead of their matches against the Black Stars of Ghana and Mali.
The 52-year-old took over from Jose Peseiro, who was in charge of the Super Eagles on a two-year contract, which came to an end at the end of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
According to reports, the players have arrived in Marrakesh, Morocco, where the game against Ghana and Mali will be played.
Speaking to theNFF.com, in a video shared on Instagram, George said the response of the team has been good, though they are still expecting some players to join the squad.
According to the current Enyimba Football Club manager, the players at the camp are not doing intensive training yet because they are still waiting for others to join them.
Speaking on his feelings about the matches against Ghana and Mali, the former Real Mallorca player said; "As a coach, there is a responsibility, and that is what we do. We have to be calm, do our job, and ensure we do it properly".
He added; "We know a lot of Nigerians are watching. So, we want to make them proud. AFCON is gone. These are two games that are very, very crucial to Nigeria. We will take it seriously and ensure we get the best of this game."
Nigeria's Super Eagles are set for a friendly clash with their counterparts in Ghana and Mali later in March 2024.
The marches in Morocco will be the first since their campaigns at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
However, four Super Eagles star players, including Victor Osimhen and Taiwo Awoniyi will not be playing in the matches due to fitness issues.
What's next for Finidi George?
The former Real Betis winger will be seen on the sideline when the Super Eagles lock horns with the Ghana national team at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 22, before they battle Mali at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26.
