Fire breaks out at Port-Harcourt market
Many goods worth millions of naira have been destroyed as fire broke out in Port-Harcourt market.
The fire broke out in Ojoto market, Mile 2 Diobu Port Harcourt, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The fire started on Thursday night around 10pm. It affected over 200 shops in the market
Mr Arinze Akupue who is the chairman of the market, was the one who mentioned the incident.
He revealed that was alerted by a security guard in the market and he quickly called for people to help put the fire out.
He also mentioned how he went to the state fire service to seek help, but they said they can't do anything about it and then referred him to the Federal Fire Service.
He then mentioned that by the time the Federal Fire Service arrived at the market 80% of the market had already burnt down.
He revealed that these firemen were also attacked by thugs so they could steal the remaining goods left in the market. The thugs were throwing bottles at the vehicles.
The Azikiwe Divisional Police Headquarters had to intervene in the attack and rescued the fire Service men.
