Nigerian singer and songwriter Yemi Alade expresses her concerns about the hike in the price of foodstuffs and commodities across the country.
The self-acclaimed Mama Africa stated her concerns in a recent tweet, asking God to intervene in the economic affairs of the nation. Yemi Alade lamented the cost of foodstuffs, school fees, building materials, and house rent while salaries remained the same. She also expressed her concerns about how a bag of cement which was sold at N5,300 on Monday is being sold at N8,000 on Friday.
As of February 2024, the minimum wage in Nigeria is N30,000, and a bag of rice, which is Nigerians' staple food, is now close to N80,000. As of 2015, a bag of rice was sold at about N10,000.
