Troy Deeney has been fired as manager of League Two club Forest Green Rovers after barely 29 days in charge of the team.

Deeney was appointed as manager of the English club on December 20, 2023, and he was manager for the club until January 18, 2024.

Troy Deeney took charge of 6 games as manager of Forest Green Rovers, and he failed to win any of the games handled, losing 3 games and drawing 3.

The Englishman was formerly assistant manager of the club from August 17, 2023, to December 20, 2023.

However, following the departure of David Horseman, Deeney was handed the big role, and based on the numbers he had failed woefully as boss of the Rovers.

The former Watford striker was making his first leap into management and he was hoping for positive fortunes all through.

The 35-year-old as aforementioned failed to win any game as manager of Forest Green Rovers, and that saw the club slump to bottom (24th) on the League Two table with 18 points from 26 matches.

Only 2 teams will be relegated to the National League from the English League Two and it looks like Rovers might not be able to remain in the division unless something drastic is done.

Troy Deeney will have to resurrect his coaching career elsewhere, although it is uncertain if his decision to venture into management meant he has retired from football, a path the Englishman hasn't revealed he had halted.

Before Deeney was dismissed, he had a go at his players over the performances, terming the team as one “full of sulkers”.

Speaking after their 2-0 defeat to Harrogate Town on Saturday, January 13, 2024, the former Birmingham City man claimed that he should not have criticized his players so much and admitted he let the emotions get the better of him.

Troy Deeney had an impressive career throughout the ranks of English football, scoring goals and being instrumental in the successes that his teams achieved.

The 35-year-old has played for several clubs in his career, including; Watford, Walsall, and Forest Green Rovers.

Deeney has made 628 club appearances, scoring 182 goals and providing 76 assists in all competitions.

It will be interesting to see where he ventures into subsequently, with him still at a considerable age to continue active football.

If Troy Deeney goes into football management on a full-time basis, the spotlight will also be on him like most ex-English footballers and he will have to get positive results to keep his job.

Meanwhile, Forest Green Rovers return to action on Saturday, January 20, 2024, facing Gillingham and they will need to be at their best to cover up the 7 points difference between them and being on the safe side of the league table.
