Cape Verde secured their second win in the 2023 African Cup of Nations with a convincing win over Mozambique.

A former Manchester United player who played for the Red Devils during the Sir Alex Ferguson era scored an exceptional free kick from outside the box.

Mozambique players thought they had a penalty before the end of the first half, but it was ruled out by VAR.

The Cape Verde side started well in the second half, recording a goal in the 51st minute of the second half through Mendes.

The Cape Verde team scored their last goal in the 69th minute. Despite scoring three goals in the game, Cape Verde were the hungrier side, seeking more goals.

Mozambique, on the other hand, failed to replicate their previous performances against Egypt as Cape Verde became the first team to get two wins in two matches in the 2023 AFCON.

How Cape Verde Defeated Mozambique in the African Cup of Nations

Cape Verde started on a good note, but they were able to capitalize on their chances with Mozambique sitting at the back so many times.

However, Cape Verde's first goal came from former Manchester United attacker Bebe, who hit the ball from afar in the 32nd minute of the match.

Mozambique players surrounded the referee in the 40th minute of the match for a penalty. However, after a VAR review, the penalty was waived.

In the 51st minute of the match, Cape Verde extended their lead through Ryan Isaac Mendes da Graca. The midfielder excellently hit the ball with his right foot from inside the box.

The second goal destroyed Mozambique's hope of coming back into the match.

In the 59th minute of the match, Mozambique's Geny Catamo hit the bar from a distance, and it was close to going in. The Mozambique spectators thought they were going to see the best goal of the tournament.

Cape Verde extended their lead through Kevin Pina in the 69th minute of the match.

The Mozambique players were sluggish at the back, and being poor defensively cost them the game.

Towards the end of the match, Cape Verde set offside trap consistently to frustrate the Mozambique who were eager to score a consolation goal.
