Former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele will remain in Kuje prison till 2024 after failing to meet his N300M bail condition.
Recall that Godwin Emefiele was arrested and suspended by President Tinubu in June 2023 for mismanagement of public funds and procurement fraud of signing a contract for the purchase of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion.
Emefiele has been held at the Kuje correctional facility in Abuja since then. As part of his bail condition, the court asked him to produce two sureties who must possess certificates of occupancy within Maitama area of Abuja. Emefiele must also submit all his travel documents with the court to prevent escaping the country.
After the court hearing on Tuesday, November 28th, the former CBN governor was taken back to the correctional center by the prison officials. The case has been adjourned to January 18 and 19, 2024.
