Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been tipped as favorite to become the next manager of Turkish club Besiktas.
Solskjaer is closing in on a return to management, having last managed Manchester United in November 2021.
Besiktas are looking to appoint their third manager of the campaign after Riza Calimbay was fired after seven days at the helm of the club.
Anyway, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to be The Black Eagles preferred choice to take over the club.
Besiktas sit 5th on the Turkish Super Lig table, with 29 points from 17 matches played this season.
Administrators of the club are displeased with the way the club has fared this campaign, as they appear to not be putting up a fight to win the title or qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer spent 3 years as manager of Manchester United, as he was appointed on an interim basis in December 2018, before the deal was made permanent in March 2019.
Solskjaer went on to manage the Red Devils until November 2021, and he guided the English side to back-to-back qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
Additionally, he was close to guiding the club to the UEFA Europa League title in the 2021/22 season, but a David De Gea penalty miss ensured that it wouldn't become a reality.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer received a raft of criticisms from fans, pundits, and many enthusiasts, who felt he was simply enjoying the brilliance of his players, and doing minimal coaching.
However, it appears that in 2023 many fans have begun to drift from that school of thought, given the performances of those players in recent months.
The Norwegian gaffer was dismissed following a run of games that saw his team concede about 15 goals in 5 league games.
If Solskjaer becomes the manager of Besiktas, he will be reunited with former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly.
Bailly didn't feature consistently under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during his time at the Manchester-based club, particularly due to injury and performance issues. Other players were often preferred over him and Erik Ten Hag also loaned the Ivorian to Olympique Marseille last term for a career rejig.
Following his wishy-washy time in France, Besiktas came into the picture to offer him a timely deal.
The 29-year-old joined the Turkish club on a free transfer, and he has made 8 appearances for the team, scoring no goal and providing no assist in all competitions.
Recently, Eric Bailly was ejected from the Besiktas squad alongside four other players according to a statement that attributed the reason for the removal “to poor performance and incompatibility with the team.”
It is left to be seen how things will be with Eric Bailly and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the former being expected to up his game to get a starting shirt.
Meanwhile, Besiktas return to action on Sunday, January 7, 2024, with a league encounter against Kasimpasa.
