Ivory Coast are the champions of Africa. The Elephants stunned the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Alassane Quatarra Stadium in Abidjan to win their third AFCON trophy.
The Ivoriens started the game on a brilliant note dominating proceedings. It was a one-sided affair as Nigeria dropped back to defend as the hosts continued to mount pressure.
Within the first 10 minutes of the game, the Elephants won five set pieces but could not make them count. Nigeria's first and only clear chance in the first half came in the 36th minute after a corner-kick. William-Troost Ekong left unmarked inside the box, rose high and nodded home the corner-kick to give Nigeria the lead.
Ivory Coast ramped up pressure on the Eagles searching for an equaliser but failed to convert glaring chances. It ended 1-0 in favor of Nigeria at the break.
In the second half, the Ivoriens continued with their dominant display. It was just a matter of time before found the equaliser as they kept mounting pressure on the Super Eagles.
In the 62nd minute, Franck Kessie headed home the equaliser for the hosts after a corner kick. After the leveler, the Ivoriens still continued on their dominant display going forward.
In the 82nd minute, Sebastian Haller poked home a cross from Adingra with his back foot to complete a dramatic comeback. Nigeria made a late push to find an equaliser all to no avail.
