The Spanish Super Cup lit up extravagantly with Real Madrid and Barcelona providing neutrals a treat.

Supporters of Xavi Hernandez's side will not be pleased with the manner in which their rivals bashed them in the most embarrassing of fashions.

Vinicius Jr raced Real Madrid into the lead in the 7th minute, rounding Inaki Pena following a well-timed pass from Jude Bellingham.

2 minutes later, the Brazilian doubled the lead for Los Blancos, with Rodrygo being the creator this time around.

Barcelona could have halved the deficit in the 12th minute, but an attempt from Pedri struck the crossbar.

The ball resultantly made its way to Robert Lewandowski and his follow-up strike was tipped away by Andriy Lunin.

Robert Lewandowski finally halved the deficit for Barcelona in the 33rd minute, after Nacho had made a defensive header for Real Madrid.

Lewandowski was positioned nicely on the edge of the box and he brilliantly hit a volley beyond the reach of goalie Lunin.

Carlo Ancelotti's side were handed a penalty in the 37th minute and then it was a day for Vinicius Jr to shine like a million stars.

The 23-year-old stepped up and converted the penalty, striking the ball into the bottom-right corner.

Ronald Araujo was the guilty party who caused the penalty for a foul on Vinicius Jr and he was shown a yellow card for his troubles.

Jude Bellingham also got his name taken down into the referee's book in the 43rd minute for a reckless tackle on Barcelona midfielder Pedri.

The Blaugrana side also had a glorious chance in the 5th minute of additional time in the first 45, with Gundogan sending a delightful cross into the area off a corner, with Andriy Lunin punching clear for Real Madrid.

His clearance went only as far as Pedri and the youngster's effort nearly found its way into the back of the net only missing the goalpost by a slight margin.

Real Madrid went into the break pleased and happy with the scoreline, as they were eyeing their first trophy of the campaign.

The second half also witnessed both teams having plenty of chances to change the face of the game but only one goal was scored in the second 45.

Meanwhile, Xavi Hernandez introduced Fermim Lopez for Sergio Roberto in the 61st minute, while Joao Felix came on for Ferran Torres.

Barcelona also brought on Lamin Yamal for Pedri, as frantic decisions were made to change the outlook of the encounter.

Antonio Rudiger was booked by referee Juan Martinez in the 62nd minute for a poor tackle on Joao Felix, stopping the run of the Portuguese.

Real Madrid got the icing on the cake in the 64th minute, with Rodrygo smashing a low shot into the bottom corner.

Truly, Carlo Ancelotti's side were ruthless on the night and the scoreline pretty much depicted their performance on the day.

Anyway, the last booking of the game went to Ronald Araujo, who was shown a second yellow card and subsequently a red card for a bad challenge on Vinicius Jr.

Real Madrid leave Saudi Arabia with the Spanish Super Cup trophy, while Barcelona exit the final bruised and battered.
