Egypt and Liverpool may miss Liverpool for a longer period than previously thought due to his AFCON injury.

Salah picked up a hamstring issue in Egypt's AFCON Group B clash against Ghana. The Liverpool star was forced off the game before the break.

Egypt FA confirmed in a press statement Mo Salah will miss Egypt's final group game against Cape Verde, including their round 16 tie.

We reported earlier Salah had exited Egypt AFCON squad, returning to Merseyside for diagnosis and rehabilitation following the injury blow.

Speaking after Liverpool's 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed Salah is back to the club to undergo his rehabilitation and could likely return for AFCON if he returns to fitness before the end of the tournament.

Based on the report from the Egyptian FA, it was thought Salah will return to action soon, missing just two games at most. However, a worrying update by his agent Ramy Abbas, shared by Fabrizio Romano, has revealed Salah could miss 3-4 weeks of action as the injury is more serious than previously thought.

"The injury is more serious than first thought Salah will be out for 21-28 days and won't miss just two games.

"His best chance of participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK."

"Salah will be rejoining the team as soon as he is fit," Ramy said.

Salah opened his 2023 AFCON account, scoring a late equaliser for the Pharaohs to salvage a point at the death against Mozambique.

The Pharaohs have scaled through to the next round of the competition with just 3 points after drawing all their three group matches in Group B. Salah could return for the tournament if Egypt continue long enough to have the Liverpool star return from injury.
