A document showing various prices of fuel sold in each state circulated on social media on Wednesday, 31st May 2023. This was a day after President Tinubu announced the removal of subsidy on May 29th, 2023, his inauguration day.
The hike in price of PMS has made many Nigerians stranded and unable to go about their daily activities. This has led to long queues at filling stations, with Nigerians lamenting about the current situation.
The CEO of NNPCL, Mele Kyari, in an interview yesterday 1st June 2023, addressed the current hike in fuel price and reiterated that Nigerians shouldn't expect changes in price for now.
Kyari stated that there will be no more subsidy when local production of petrol starts because there is no cash-to-back subsidy. He also added that Nigeria no longer has the resources to continue with subsidy.
