Premier League duo - Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo have indicated their interest in playing for the Nigeria national team.
The pair currently play for English club Luton Town and are said to be open to playing for the Super Eagles.
Osho is a versatile defender, who can function in several positions, including at center-back, right-back, and defensive midfield roles.
Gabriel Osho joined Luton Town on November 18, 2020, and he has 78 appearances for the Hatters, scoring 5 goals and providing 1 assist in all competitions.
The 25-year-old has been impressive this campaign, amassing 16 appearances, scoring 2 goals, and providing no assist in all competitions.
Meanwhile, Adebayo has been sublime this campaign leading the line for the Kenilworth Road side.
He has scored 9 goals and provided no assist in 28 appearances for Luton Town across all competitions this term. Adebayo has been helping Rob Edwards' side in the battle to beat the drop.
Speaking concerning the country he would love to play for, the 26-year-old striker said: “I would like to play for Nigeria.
“It would make my mum happy, make her proud. That’s something we’ve spoken about.
“Playing for England? It would be a case of whichever comes first. My mum would be proud if I played for Nigeria or England, but Nigeria especially.”
David Doherty, a UK-based football administrator, who contested the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation in the election held in 2022 also expressed that both players were open to playing for Nigeria.
Doherty wrote on Instagram: “Let us make it clear here once and for all, Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo have always been open and committed to the Nigeria project and there has not been interest or move from England for the duo.
“Osho and Adebayo are both guaranteed for Nigeria from age 16 and nothing has ever changed since then. Osho has always been open to Naija, no doubt.”
Gabriel Osho and Elijah Adebayo's potentially playing for Nigeria would certainly have resulted in the duo following the path of several top names, including; Alex Iwobi, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, Ademola Lookman and Leon Balogun.
Luton Town currently sit 17th in the English Premier League table, just one point away from the relegation zone.
The Hatters return to action on Wednesday, February 21, 2014, visiting Anfield to play Liverpool, in a Matchday 26 Premier League encounter.
Rob Edwards’ side are aiming to end a three-game winless run in the Premier League, having lost 1-2 to Manchester United, 1-3 to Sheffield United, and playing out a 4-4 draw at St James' Park against Newcastle United.
It will be fascinating to see if the pair will eventually get the call-up from the Nigeria national team and if they will accept the invitation if the call-up ever comes.
